Diploma Periodontology

Periodontitis is one of the most common human diseases. In Germany, over 50% of the population suffers from periodontitis and the periodontal treatment requirements increase enormously with increasing age. This is estimated at approximately 10-12 million cases of severe periodontitis in Germany.

If left untreated, periodontitis leads to loss of teeth, which leads to restrictions in nutrition, phonetics and quality of life. Periodontal diseases can also lead to general diseases such as atherosclerosis, heart attack and stroke. In diabetes mellitus there is also a bi-directional connection to periodontal diseases.

Effective periodontal therapy leads to periodontal healing based on evidence and thus to improvements in periodontal parameters, as well as an improvement in subclinical cardiovascular parameters and thus represents an effective preventive measure for general inflammatory diseases. Periodontitis treatment is also inexpensive and reduces the costs for the treatment of secondary diseases.

In this course, the causes, the conservative and operative treatment of periodontitis as well as the augmentative and reconstructive measures after tissue loss are presented.
